What Are Dental Implants?

Introduction

Even with their budding popularity as a solution for missing teeth, some of our patients in Stafford still feel none the wiser about what dental implants are – including how they work, what they look like, how long they last, and what’s involved in treatment. Today, we’ll answer those questions and more, so you feel comfortable and confident about your care.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants, also known as ‘tooth implants’, these are permanently implanted false teeth. The procedure to place a dental implant involves minimally-invasive surgery, but you’re in safe hands at our Stafford dental practice. We ensure that the dental implant you receive is customised to match your natural teeth. The colour, size, and shape of the implant are all tailored to your specific needs, ensuring that your smile looks as natural as possible.

What do dental implants look like?

They look just like your natural teeth. We cleverly match them to the same shade, size and shape as your surrounding teeth for a perfect fit and discreet result. Most people won’t even know you have tooth implants.

Do dental implants hurt?

Because we’ll need to make a small incision in the gum and ‘screw’ the implant in place (gently!), you’ll need a local anaesthetic to desensitise the area. You might feel tender or sore following treatment, but in most cases, over-the-counter pain relief can help manage this.

How successful is the treatment?

Highly successful – in over 90% of cases and counting. It’s a restorative dental treatment we offer to our patients in Stafford and our team of professional dentists has had some fantastic results over their careers. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime, making them an excellent long-term solution for tooth replacement. The success and longevity of dental implants depend largely on the health of the individual receiving them, their oral hygiene habits, and the expertise of the dental professional placing them.

How expensive are dental implants?

For results this impressive and long-lasting, you’ll have to make an investment. But bear in mind that we use the highest-quality materials, delivered by the most experienced team, to ensure you’re happy with the treatment and it stands the most excellent chance of success. Also, these are a permanent solution – so you shouldn’t need to replace them in your lifetime (if you ensure high standards or oral care).

The exact cost of dental implants can vary depending on several factors, including the number of teeth needing replacement and the type of implant used. During your initial consultation, we will provide a detailed cost estimate and discuss payment options with you.

Which teeth can I replace with tooth implants?

You can replace a single tooth, or many or all your teeth – it depends on your unique situation and the results you’re looking for. Patients can have implant-supported bridges and implant-retained dentures. Just book your consultation to discover your options.
